Throttur Nes

Nine championships between 1996 and 2018 mark Þróttur Neskaupstaður as the defining force in Icelandic women's volleyball, and the run says something about the town itself: a club built on the east coast, far from the clubs of the capital area, out-lasting and out-winning them at their own game. The 2018 title, the most recent of the nine, came twelve years after the closest gap between wins in the sequence, proof the standard held rather than faded after the early 2000s peak, when the team won three years running from 2001 to 2003.

The parent club dates to 1923, long before volleyball became its calling card, and still fields teams across sports under the yellow and black. The men's section has never matched the women's record; the closest it came was topping the Mizunodeild karla table in the 2019-2020 season, without turning that position into a championship.

Helena Kristín Gunnarsdóttir came through the club before her career took her to KA Akureyri and the national team, and it is KA who remain the club's sharpest rival, a fixture of the top division for both the men's and women's sides for years. Home matches are played at Íþróttahús Neskaupstaður, up at Naustaskóli. For 2024-2025, the club brought in Jannis Jerumanis as head coach, a new voice tasked with adding to a haul that already stands at nine.
