Vestri

Lose the Icelandic Cup final and the name that beat you tends to stick, and Vestri's volleyball side has Hamar's for that reason: a 2023 final reached and lost. No championship has followed it, none preceded it.

The volleyball team plays as the Blakdeild of a club built for more than one sport.

Home games are played at Íþróttahúsið á Torfnesi, a hall in Ísafjörður known locally as Ísjakinn, seating 900. It was built for a town at the edge of the Westfjords, not for a volleyball department that did not yet exist when the doors opened in 1993.

Vestri itself came later, and out of arithmetic as much as ambition: four separate clubs in Ísafjörður — a basketball side, the swimming club, BÍ88, and the volleyball club known as Skellur — merged into one on 16 January 2016. Blakdeild carries Skellur's game forward under the shared blue, red and white. What had been a volleyball club on its own became a department of something larger, and it is that starting point, four clubs folding into one, that the rest of its short record has been built on.
