KA Akureyri

Men's volleyball at KA Akureyri has won a second league title in three seasons and four more championships, the most recent in 2023. The cup followed later: KA lifted the men's trophy in 2016 and again in 2024, giving the section silverware in three different competitions across three decades. Whichever campaign is under way, that recent record is the standard the squad measures itself against.

The women's side has one league title to point to, won in 2019, and has reached cup finals without lifting that trophy.

Both teams play out of Íþróttahöllin in Akureyri, a hall that seats close to 1,100 and sits at the centre of a club that has carried the town's name in football, handball and volleyball alike since 1928. Blue and yellow run through all of it; volleyball itself has never needed a separate nickname to be known by them.

What sharpens a season for KA is not a single fixture but the town's own footballing rival, Þór, and the wider list of Reykjavík clubs that have won the league often enough to make any Akureyri title feel earned rather than expected. A club from the north taking the national volleyball title, as it has done seven times, still reads as a result against the capital.
