Thun snatch victory from St Gallen in five-goal thriller
St Gallen entertained Thun at home in the Swiss Super League's fifth round and lost 3-4. The hosts took an early lead through B. Labeau in the ninth minute, but the visitors responded within the opening half. N. Reichmuth and L. Frokaj struck in quick succession after the break to give Thun the advantage. F. Dursun added a fourth before B. Labeau pulled one back for the hosts in the fifty-third minute. And here's the thing — you'd expect the home side to finish stronger after that, but Thun held on.
By then the match had settled into a pattern of open ends. F. Dursun made way for a fresh leg in the fifty-eighth minute, while three more substitutions came together in the sixty-seventh hour as St Gallen searched for a response. N. Reichmuth and B. Labeau both came off in the seventy-second minute, and H. Vandermersch joined them shortly after. The visitors ran out of steam late on, but N. Scherrer's goal in the seventy-fifth minute had already buried any hopes of a comeback.
St Gallen pushed forward in the closing stages. L. Daschner scored in the ninetieth minute to add a late consolation, but the result was beyond reach. The hosts finished with 28 shots — 7 on target — against Thun's 5. The away side were more clinical, converting 71 per cent of their shots on target while the home side managed 28 per cent. Possession told the story too: St Gallen held 68 per cent but created only 6 big chances compared to Thun's 1.
The result leaves St Gallen in fourth place with 7 points from three games, while Thun sit in tenth with 3 points. The hosts have won twice and drawn once, while the visitors have suffered their second defeat in as many away trips. The gap between them remains significant, and this match simply widened it.
