Górnik Zabrze claimed a 2:1 victory over Wisła Kraków in the fourth round of the Ekstraklasa regular season on Saturday evening. The match, played at the Zabrze stadium, finished with the home side holding onto a narrow lead despite having less than a third of the possession. Three goals were scored across the ninety minutes, with the decisive moment coming after a dismissal in the fifty-sixth minute.
Lukas Sadilek opened the scoring in the twenty-seventh minute, catching Wisła off guard before the visitors could settle into their rhythm. The goal came from a well-worked build-up, and Górnik held onto the advantage through a tense spell where Wisła pressed forward but found little penetration. Yellow cards for both sides peppered the first half, with J. Ertlthaler, K. Duda, A. Uryga and S. Liseth all booked before the interval.
The second half brought a flurry of activity. Maksym Khlán levelled in the fifty-third minute, and just two minutes later Jordi Sanchez turned the tie on its head with a second goal for Górnik. By then, Wisła had been working channels and creating more attacks, but the momentum shifted sharply when S. Liseth received his second yellow card and was sent off in the fifty-sixth minute. The dismissal left the visitors with nine men and changed the complexion of the game entirely.
Substitutions followed in quick succession as both managers tried to manage the remaining period. Górnik brought on P. Bernardo in the sixtieth minute and K. Duda alongside M. Bozic in the seventy-second, while Wisła responded with O. Zmrzly and K. Urbanski at the seventy-eighth. The home side added further changes in the final ten minutes, with F. Duarte and J. Krzyzanowski coming on, before M. Sacek and M. Khlan were both substituted at the ninety-minute mark.
The statistics told a familiar story of dominance without reward. Wisła Kraków held 64 per cent of possession and completed 436 successful passes to Górnik's 222, while their attacks totalled 67 compared to 59. Yet shots on target were level at five apiece, and Wisła's shots accuracy of 31 per cent meant they wasted more chances than their opponents, who hit 56 per cent accuracy. The visitors created one big chance each, but neither could convert when it mattered most.
The result leaves Górnik Zabrze third in the table with twelve points from five matches, having won four and lost once. Wisła Kraków sit fourth after seven games, with eleven points from three wins, two draws and two defeats. The gap between them remains tight, and Saturday's outcome means the visitors have one less opportunity to close the distance on the leaders.
