Mladá Boleslav ran out 4-0 winners against Baník Ostrava in the Czech League's seventh round at Lokotrans Arena on Saturday evening. The hosts climbed further clear of the mid-table pack, while the visitors found themselves tangled in a pattern of losses that includes a 4-0 hammering at Slavia Prague earlier this season.
And here's the thing about minute twenty — Šubert had already struck in the tenth minute, but that second goal felt different. The striker had been patient, waiting for the right moment, and when the chance came he didn't hesitate. Ostrava's defence had seemed to settle after the opening period, but by then the damage was already done.
Solomon John added a third in the fifty-second minute, capitalising on a defensive error that came out of nowhere. The goal broke something in the visitors' approach. Josef Kolarik then wrapped things up late on, and the result looked increasingly comfortable as the evening wore on.
Boleslav held a slight edge in possession at 51 per cent, but the numbers tell only part of the story. They registered nine shots on target compared to Ostrava's five, and while the visitors managed more crosses, they lacked the cutting edge that would have threatened the home side.
To be fair, Ostrava created five big chances of their own, but the conversion rate was abysmal. They also pulled more fouls — seventeen against eight — which suggests frustration mounting as the game slipped away. Six yellow cards were shown in total, with the hosts picking up two and the visitors four.
By then, the table told its own tale. Mladá Boleslav sit third with fourteen points from six games, unbeaten so far this season. Baník Ostrava occupy eleventh place with nine points, their record of three wins and three defeats looking less promising with each passing match.
