Monaro Panthers and O'Connor Knights shared the points in a 1-1 draw during Regular Season round 19 of the NPL Capital Territory, played on Saturday 1 August 2026.
And here's the thing about this one — the opening goal came in the twentieth minute, when Lukman Shaibu Ahmed finished off a move and put the hosts ahead. It was the kind of strike that settles a nervous crowd, and Monaro were comfortable for a while after that.
O'Connor Knights refused to go away, though. They dug in, looked for openings, and by the seventy-seventh minute they had their reward. A goal came, though the scorer was not named in the match data, and suddenly the result was level again.
To be fair, this was a match that reflected the gap between the two sides in the table. Monaro sit second with thirty-three points from eleven wins and three losses, while O'Connor are seventh on fifteen points, having lost nine of their fourteen games.
The hosts had been in strong form recently, beating Canberra Juventus 3-0 and Queenbayan City 2-1 in their last two outings, but the Knights had shown they could hold their nerve too, drawing 1-1 with Belconnen United on their previous outing.
By then the game had settled into a rhythm neither side could quite break. Monaro controlled territory but O'Connor found chances when it mattered, and in the end the draw was a fair reflection of a contest that swung both ways.
