Caracas secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Trujillanos in the eighth round of the Clausura phase of Venezuela's First Division. The result lifted the visitors to tenth place with 22 points, while the hosts remained rooted in fourteenth spot on 11 points after twenty matches.
Trujillanos thought they had taken the lead when Franklin González struck in the sixteenth minute, but the goal was wiped out by VAR twenty minutes in. To be fair, Caracas were not troubled for long and kept their shape. The home side pressed forward but could not find a way through the visitors' back line.
Trujillanos made three changes around the hour mark, bringing on Leomar Mosquera, Christian Santos and Christian Adan to add fresh legs. Caracas responded by sending on Jeriel De Santis in the seventy-seventh minute. By then the match was settling into a rhythm, and Juan Uribe finally broke the deadlock in the seventy-ninth minute. N. Vaquer saw red shortly after, leaving the hosts to finish the game with ten men.
Trujillanos dominated possession at 56 per cent and created three big chances, yet only managed four shots on target. Caracas showed more efficiency with two big chances and four attempts on goal. The visitors completed 232 passes compared to the hosts' 383, and won fewer aerial duels but defended more resolutely with twenty-seven clearances.
We had tipped Caracas to win ahead of kick-off, putting 43 per cent confidence on the away side. The visitors carried their side through a difficult patch, and the result ended a run of draws that had left them growing impatient. It was a hard-fought win rather than a performance that announced anything.
The result does little to shift the table dramatically, but it puts distance between the two sides. Caracas move further clear of the relegation zone while Trujillanos remain in the bottom half, still searching for consistency after a mixed run of results.
