Avarca De Menorca Women

Since September 2014 a volleyball team from Ciutadella has carried the name of a sandal. The avarca is the traditional Menorcan leather shoe. A local footwear maker put its name on the team, with the Consell Insular de Menorca, the island's governing council, as co-signatory, and the players have been "Las Avarcas" ever since. The official name is still Club Voleibol Ciutadella.

The club began in the summer of 1985, when teams from several of the town's schools were merged into one. Its two Spanish league titles, in 2010/11 and 2011/12, came under a different name. It was then Valeriano Allés Menorca Volei, a title carried from about 2009 to 2014. Milagros Moy played for the side in that period. Before the footwear deal there was also a spell as Patricia Volei Ciutadella.

The championship years were followed by a long gap in the trophy record. The Supercopa de España, won in 2021, ended it. The competition was won again in the 2024/25 season, and the same season brought the club's first Copa de la Reina, in a final against Heidelberg Volkswagen of Gran Canaria.

Menorca has no local rival to play. The clubs Avarca meets in cup finals are Heidelberg Volkswagen, Hidramar Gran Canaria and Feel Volley Alcobendas. Most of the club's matches are played in the Pavelló Municipal de Ciutadella, which holds more than 1,500 people.
