Basel Women

The Leichtathletikstadion St. Jakob sits in Münchenstein, just outside Basel, and it's built for track and field as much as football — the whole ground holds 6,000. When the turf there fails, the women's side moves next door to St. Jakob-Park, home of the men's team; that happened in the 2025/26 season after longhorn beetle damage left the grass unplayable. For training, the club uses the Nachwuchs-Campus, a smaller ground that holds up to 1,000.

FC Basel 1893 Frauen carries the parent club's crest and its red-and-blue kit. Its roots sit at FC Concordia Basel Frauen, founded on 24 February 2006; FC Basel absorbed that side in 2009, and 2009 is the year the club now counts as its founding date.

The Swiss Cup is where this team has left its mark. It won the trophy in 2014, then kept coming back to the final without winning again — runners-up in 2013, 2015, and 2025, losing the most recent one 0-1. Domestically, the high point was second place in the 2017/18 Nationalliga A, a finish that sent Basel into the Women's Champions League for the first time; in 2018/19 they got through the group stage in second place.

Fabienne Bangerter captained the side from 2014 to 2018 and later captained the Swiss national team. Basel's derby rivals are FC Zürich Frauen and Servette Chênois Frauen, both regular opponents in the Women's Super League.
