Grasshopper Women

The Letzigrund holds 26,104 people. It is Zurich's municipal ground, shared rather than owned, and the club's women's side arrived there through the men's club it now belongs to.

That belonging is recent, and the route to it was long. The team began in 1977 in Schwerzenbach, a village east of the city, as DFC Schwerzenbach. It won the Swiss championship under that name in 1999. Three cup wins came either side: 1992, then 2003, then 2008, the last of them in the same year the club began working with Grasshopper Club Zürich.

By then it had already been through one reinvention, becoming FFC United Schwerzenbach in 2006 as an independent outfit. The partnership with Grasshopper turned into full absorption on 1 July 2009, and the trophies stopped. Second place in 2010 came close enough to suggest the merger had cost nothing; the second place in 2022 arrived twelve years later, with nothing in between.

On 4 September 2023 the club's women's operation was separated out again, this time as a company — GC Frauenfussball AG — set up to run the team on professional terms rather than as a department of the men's side. The blue and white stayed, as did the Hoppers name, which the women share with everything else under the Grasshopper badge.

What the structure is meant to deliver has not yet shown up in the honours list. Nothing has been won since 2008.
