Guatemala did to Costa Rica's under-23 side what Costa Rica could not avoid: closed out the 2025 NORCECA Pan-American Cup U23 with a 3-0 win in the match for fifth place, sending Los Ticos home two places better than the year before but still short of the podium they chase every time the region's under-23 teams meet.

The squad is the youth wing of the Federación Costarricense de Voleibol, built to carry players through the NORCECA Pan-American Cup U23 and the Central American and Caribbean Games before they move up to the senior national team. The federation has been sending teams abroad since well before the under-23 category existed, joining the FIVB in 1970, three years after it ran its first national championship.

Training and matches at home run through the Gimnasio Nacional Eddy Cortés, in La Sabana Metropolitan Park in San José, where the federation also keeps its offices. César Salas coached Los Ticos through both the 2024 tournament in Suriname, where they finished seventh, and the 2025 edition in Guatemala a year later.

The gymnasium holds 4,000 seats, though in recent years it has operated at reduced capacity, between 1,600 and 3,600.
