Eimsbuttel Women

Volleyball at Grün-Weiß Eimsbüttel grew out of a wider Hamburg sports club whose roots go back to a football side called FC Britannia, founded in Eimsbüttel in 1901 and later renamed SV Blücher. The multi-sport body known today took shape in 1976, when the old Eimsbütteler Sportverein merged with the football club Grün-Weiß 07. Volleyball has run as one of its departments for more than four decades, playing under the initials GWE in red and white.

The Regionalliga Nord title in 2018/19 opened the door upward, and the club added the 3. Liga Nord championship in 2025/26, taking the women's side into the 2. Bundesliga Nord. Smaller trophies punctuate the same stretch: the Concordia-Cup in both 2018 and 2019, the MarC5-Pokal in 2015, and the Hamburger Pokal back in 2006.

The nearest rival plays across the same district. ETV, the Eimsbütteler Turnverband, meets GWE in what is known locally as the Eimsbüttler Derby, and the geography sharpens the edge: GWE does not play at ETV's CU Arena, instead using its own halls nearby, the Sporthalle am Brehmweg and the Sporthalle der Stadtteilschule Stellingen.
