Bonn Women

The 2022/23 season gave the club its clearest recent success: the women's team, playing simply as SSF Bonn after the long joint venture with SC Fortuna Bonn had been dissolved that year, won the 3. Liga West outright and went straight back up to the 2. Bundesliga. Since the same team had been relegated from that division at the end of 2021/22 after two seasons up there, the 2022/23 title marked their return.

The path back had started earlier still. Under head coach Niclas Schlüter, the side finished second in the 3. Liga West in a 2019/20 season cut short by the pandemic, and promotion followed anyway. That stretch under the SSF Fortuna Bonn banner traced back to 1996, when the volleyball departments of SC Fortuna Bonn and SSF Bonn combined into a Spielgemeinschaft after both men's teams had dropped out of the top flight — a decline from a period when SSF Bonn had been German champion in 1974 and 1981 and Fortuna had added national titles and a DVV Cup of its own.

Squads under Schlüter and, more recently, coaches including Robert Kroner and Albert Klein, have carried players such as Jil Molitor and Lisa Derendorf through these seasons.

Bonn are back in the 2. Bundesliga Nord now, in a division where RC Sorpesee and TV Hörde have been the sides that matter most.
