Osnabruck Women

Promotion in 2024 came with the Regionalliga Nordwest title settled. VC Osnabrück went up to the 3. Liga on the back of it, and this season the club sits a rung higher still, in the 2. Bundesliga North.

Osnabrücker Turnerbund has run a team since 1876, and SSC Dodesheide, formed in 1962, absorbed the volleyball section of GSV Osnabrück in 1995 — a club that had once played in the 1. Bundesliga. The two sides first pooled their women's programme into a joint Spielgemeinschaft in 2011, and that arrangement was formalised this year into a single club, VC Osnabrück e. V.

Matches are played at the Schlosswallhalle, rebuilt in 2014 to hold 1,400, 700 of them seated. Purple and white, the colours carried over from VfL Osnabrück, remain on the kit even though the volleyball side has gone its own way. There is no nickname beyond the shortened VCO, and no single name for the fixture against TV Cloppenburg either — locally it is just called a neighbourhood duel, though it carries the tension of one all the same. Blau-Weiß Lohne is the other side that sharpens attention on the calendar.

Gunnar Kraus took over the bench for this campaign, stepping into a squad still shaped by the players who won promotion. Jolina Tönsing, the middle blocker, is the one most often pointed to when the club's recent rise comes up — a name that stayed through the Regionalliga title and the step up that followed.
