Hildesheim Women

Nobody in the 2. Bundesliga North circles this fixture on the calendar; the women of Hildesheim travel to face USC Münster II, SCU Emlichheim and VfL Oythe, opponents scattered across the map rather than across town. The volleyball section grew out of MTV 1848 Hildesheim, the old multi-sport club whose name still carries the year of the 1848 revolutions even though the team itself traces back only to 1986, when volleyball split off as its own department. What stuck was the shorthand: everyone here calls it Team 48.

The rise has been recent and fairly quick. Second place in the 3. Liga West in 2022/23 sent the team up into the 2. Bundesliga North for the following season.

Anna Felser carried much of that run as the long-serving middle-blocker before leaving the club in 2025, and Matthias Keller has coached the side through the two seasons since promotion, with Harald Thiele alongside him on the bench. Setter Lena Onnen now make up the spine of the current squad.

Matches are played at the Sparkassen-Arena, a hall that seats a little over 2,400. What the club has not done yet is win anything at the level it now plays: no cup run, no national title.
