Fortuna Hjørring

Fortuna Hjørring go into the current Danish women's top flight as the team every rival still measures itself against, and the 2024–25 season gave them another reason: the league and the cup in the same year, a double sealed under Lene Terp.

The club did not grow out of a men's project gone separate — it grew out of the wives and partners of players and officials at Hjørring Frem, who formed their own side on 28 October 1966 under the name Frems Venner. Inger Lise Gram Nielsen, known as "Pinne", took the chair. When the men's club later moved on, the women's side stayed put in Hjørring.

What followed is a run rarely matched in Danish women's football: 12 league titles and 11 cup wins, spread from the mid-1990s to last season. Brøndby IF is the club it shares that record with, title for title, and matches between the two are still called the kvinde-derby — the closest thing Danish women's football has to a fixture that decides a season on its own.

Names have passed through Hjørring on their way to somewhere else in the international game — Nadia Nadim captained Afghanistan after playing here, Emily van Egmond went on with Australia — but the club's own record books belong to players who stayed: Lene Filholm played 418 games for Fortuna, and Lene Madsen scored 357 goals, marks that outlast any individual coaching spell, including Brian Sørensen's run of titles either side of 2015 and Flemming Nielsen's back-to-back championships around 2009.

Home games are played at the Nord Energi Arena, known locally as Hjørring Stadion, in green and white in front of a ground that holds 10,000, just over 3,050 of them seated.
