Silver in the Higher League "A" in 2023/2024 followed bronze the year before — two seasons in which Kaliningrad 2 finished ahead of clubs with far longer histories in Russia's second tier of women's volleyball, a rare climb for a team fielding some of the league's youngest rosters.

That is the point of the side: it exists to be young. Kaliningrad 2, known also as Lokomotiv-2, is the reserve team of Lokomotiv Kaliningrad, and its results are read against how many players it sends upward rather than by table position alone. Central blocker Darya Kiseleva and diagonal hitter Elizaveta Faber, born 2007, both moved from the reserve squad into the main team, and Kiseleva's promotion is the kind the club was built to produce.

The team made its competitive debut in the 2021/2022 Higher League "A" season and finished eighth, a modest start against the silver and bronze that followed. Radoslav Arsov coached the side through the 2022/2023 bronze; Petr Shopov took over later. Matches are played in the Small Hall of the Sports Palace "Yantarny", a 500-seat venue that sits inside the same building as the main club's 6,800-seat arena — reserve and first team sharing a roof but not a crowd. Severyanka of Cherepovets and Tyumen have been the sides Kaliningrad 2 has had to get past for those top finishes, and the rivalry with both runs through consecutive Higher League "A" campaigns rather than any single fixture.

Behind the first team sits a further tier, the youth side Lokomotiv-SSHOR by IVS, completing a pipeline that starts well below the Small Hall and, for a handful of players each season, ends in Lokomotiv Kaliningrad's main squad. Kaliningrad 2 goes into its next Higher League "A" campaign trying to hold the level it reached in successive silver and bronze finishes.
