Kalmar FF

The 2008 Allsvenskan title came down to a draw.

Everything before that had been built in stages, and slowly. The club that plays in Kalmar today began in 1910 as IF Göta, became IF Gothia two years later, merged with Kamraterna in 1918, and only settled on its present name in 1927. Red shirts and white shorts have been worn since 1944.

Its first spell in the top flight, in 1949, was followed by 20 years in the second division. The team came back up in 1975 and took third place in 1977, then second in 1985.

Kalmar beat IF Elfsborg 4–0 in the 1980–81 final and GAIS 2–0 in 1986–87, then waited 20 years for the third: 3–0 against IFK Göteborg in 2007, in a season that also brought a runners-up finish in the league.

Racing Luxembourg and Gent were seen off, the group stage of the UEFA Cup followed, and Feyenoord ended it.

Since then the pattern has repeated. Relegation in 2010 and again in 2014. In 2024 the club finished 15th and went down once more; second place in Superettan in 2025 brought them back.

Guldfågeln Arena holds 12,000 seated, and 12,500 when the standing sections are open.
