Linz-Steg Women

Renate Hackl watched the women's volleyball tournament at the 1972 Munich Olympics and came away with a plan. She gathered nine women in Linz, and that group became the volleyball section of Linz-Steg, now known as the Steelvolleys.

The section grew mainly through its own young players: the youth teams have won 15 Austrian junior championships. The senior side collected its first Austrian Cup wins in 2008, 2009 and 2011. Then came 2019, when the league title and the cup arrived in the same season. The cup followed again in 2020, and the league title in 2021, 2022 and 2023, three years running.

Nikolina Maroš captained the team through part of that period. She joined in 2016 and later moved on to USC Münster in Germany. The imports around her, among them Carinne Gebhardt, Bojana Ubiparip, Taylor Alexander and Samantha Cash, came from abroad, but the base of the squad was local.

The club's opponent of record is UVC Holding Graz. Austrian volleyball calls their meetings the Schlagerspiel, the headline fixture of the season. When Graz visit, the match is played in the Ballsporthalle in Linz-Kleinmünchen on Meindlstraße, which holds 1,200 spectators. The team plays in yellow and black.

Linz-Steg currently plays in the Austrian Volley League (AVL) Women and the Austrian Cup. Its last league title dates from 2023.
