«Mladostašice»
Zagreb builds its volleyball around a single academic sports society. The club grew out of HAŠK Mladost in 1946, and it kept that society's colours, red, white and gold.
What changed first was the country. Under Yugoslavia, Mladost took the national championship five times and the cup seven, building the core of a squad that, in 1991, won the European Champions Cup. Two further European finals followed, in 1992 and 1994, both lost.
Croatian independence did not interrupt the run so much as give it a new scoreboard. The club has won the domestic championship nineteen times since 1993, and holds the record for the Croatian Cup as well.
Domestically, though, there is no argument left to have.
