Rijeka Women

ŽOK Rijeka disappeared as a name in 2012, when the club merged into HAOK Rijeka, and it is under that banner that the team now competes in the Superliga Women.

The volleyball section took shape in 1947, as Rijeka's sporting life was rebuilt after the war, and it took until the 1970s to win anything: a Yugoslav Cup in 1973, a Yugoslav League title in 1975, two more cups before the decade closed. The long run came later. From 1998 to 2012 Rijeka won the Croatian League ten times and the Croatian Cup ten times, rarely finishing a season without a trophy of one colour or the other, and in 2008 added a MEVZA title on top. In Europe the club twice reached the Top Teams Cup final, in 2001/02 and 2006/07, and spent six straight seasons from 2001 in the CEV Cup before switching to the Challenge Cup, which it was still playing when the merger closed the ŽOK Rijeka chapter.

Samanta Fabris carried the last of those years on her shoulders as opposite hitter, from 2008 to 2012, by which point she was already captaining the Croatian national team.

Matches are played at Dvorana Mladost, on Trsat, which holds just under 3,000 seated and another thousand standing.
