Union Volleyballclub Steyr was founded in 1982. It built a men's side that has spent decades moving between the state league and the Bundesliga.

The closest thing the club has to silverware came in 2012, when it took the Upper Austrian championship and earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga in the same season — a title won under club chairman Fritz Hampel.

In 2023 the men's side stopped competing alone. Steyr pooled its squad with Supervolley Enns to form SG Supervolley OÖ/VBC Steyr, and that joint team reached the relegation round for the Austrian Volley League, the country's top division, without going up.

The club's own production line has outpaced its senior results. Brothers Jonas and Paul Mürzl both came up through Steyr's youth system before moving on to UVC Ried, Austria's vice-champions; Paul, born in 2008, was already representing the national youth side while still a teenager.

Home games are played in front of a ground that holds 700.
