Cologne-Weiden is not a place volleyball supporters would have looked twice at a decade ago: the senior men's team belongs to FC Junkersdorf 1946 e.V., founded that year, with volleyball one strand among the club's wider activity.

What changed the picture was pace, not size. From the Regionalliga West around 2015, the team climbed five divisions in nine years, reaching the 3. Liga in 2019 and, in the 2024/25 season, winning that division outright to earn promotion to the 2. Bundesliga Nord for 2025/26.

The rise brought a new identity along with the new division: for 2025/26 the team dropped the FCJ Köln name it had carried and became MLK Volleys Köln, after a sponsorship deal with the MLK Gruppe, while keeping the parent club's red and black. Outside hitter Luis Henrichs has been with the setup since joining as a youth player in 2011; libero and outside hitter Leo Bernsmann returned to the squad for the 2025/26 campaign.

Home matches are played in a school sports hall, the 3-fach Halle des Georg-Büchner-Gymnasiums, with no capacity attached to its name.
