The Vechtehalle in Schüttorf holds roughly 800 people, a size that has never stopped the volleyball side using it. It is where FC Schüttorf 09 won the 2. Bundesliga North in 1998/99 and again in 2025/26, though the second title came without the promotion that followed the first — the club stayed put rather than move up to the 1. Bundesliga.

The '09' in the name goes back to 1909, when twenty football enthusiasts founded the club as TV Schuttorf; it only took its present name in 1997/98. Ralph Bergmann, a former Germany international, coached the team from 2011 to 2013.

Cup football has its own rules, and Schüttorf found that out in 2023/24, when they beat WWK Volleys Herrsching 3-1 in the round of 16 of the DVV-Pokal before running into Berlin Recycling Volleys and losing 0-3 in the quarter-final — still the club's best run in the competition. Locally, the fixtures that matter are against VV Humann Essen, known simply as the West-Derby, and against TuS Mondorf.
