Parade College's soccer pitch in Bundoora holds barely 1,000 people.

The side traces back to 2011, when Melbourne Heart entered the National Youth League as Melbourne Heart Youth. The senior club's rebrand to Melbourne City in 2014 carried the reserves along as Melbourne City Youth, and in 2015 the team moved into the Victorian state pyramid, joining NPL Victoria. It wears sky blue and gold, colours the senior team cannot use on its own shirt because of trademark restrictions, which is why City's first team plays in white while its own reserves turn out in blue.

Daniel Arzani came through this side before being named the A-League's Young Footballer of the Year for 2017–18 and moving into a senior career. On the pitch, the reserves have built up their own honours quietly: the National Youth League Premiership in 2014–15, the NYL Championship two seasons later after beating Sydney FC Youth 3–2 in the final, and, once the team had switched to state football, the NPL Victoria 2 title in 2025, sealed with a 3–1 penalty win over Brunswick City that sent them up to NPL Victoria 1 for 2026.

None of that carries the weight of the fixture against Melbourne Victory Youth.
