The club had been founded on 10 December 1970 and joined the North American Soccer League for the 1971 season.
The name came back twice. It was revived on 1 August 2010, returned to competitive football in 2013, and won three more Soccer Bowls — 2013, 2015 and 2016, under coach Giovanni Savarese — before losing the 2017 final.
Green, yellow and blue remain its colours. What it has not done yet, in this life or the one before it, is stay in one competition long enough to be judged on more than its name.
