The Slovak Basketball Cup (Slovenský pohár v basketbale) serves as the premier domestic knockout competition for men’s basketball in Slovakia. Organised by the Slovak Basketball Association (SBA), the tournament operates distinctly from the league championship structure. The competition was established in 1995, with the inaugural edition taking place during the 1994/95 season.
Historically, the format has shifted significantly. Between 2003 and 2020, the standalone domestic cup was largely suspended, replaced by the joint Czecho-Slovak Cup. The domestic event returned as an independent competition in 2021. For the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, the Slovak tournament merged with the Czech Basketball Cup to form the Czech-Slovak Cup. Under this arrangement, the winner of the overall tournament is the Czech champion, while the highest-placed Slovak team receives the Slovak Basketball Cup title.
When the standalone format is active, it typically features a Final Four tournament held in February. This stage includes the top four teams from the first half of the Slovak Basketball League (SBL) season. There is no promotion or relegation linked to the cup results.
BK Inter Bratislava, now rebranded as BC Slovan Bratislava, holds the record for the most titles with six victories. Other notable winners include Basket Pezinok, Iskra Svit, and BKM Lučenec. In the recent joint tournament era, BK Patrioti Levice secured the 2024 title, and BK Inter Bratislava claimed the 2025 honour. BC Prievidza won the standalone competition in 2023. The women’s competition, the Slovak Women’s Basketball Cup, runs separately, with Young Angels Košice leading with fourteen titles.
The Slovak Basketball Cup is the top domestic knockout tournament for men’s basketball in Slovakia, running parallel to the league competition. Founded in 1995, it has seen various formats, including a merger with the Czech Basketball Cup for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. In this joint setup, the highest-ranked Slovak side wins the national cup. The standalone version traditionally uses a Final Four format in February. BK Inter Bratislava holds the most titles with six wins.
