About

The Women's Basketball League Americas (WBLA) is the premier continental club competition for women in the Americas. Organized by FIBA Americas, it sits above the Liga Sudamericana de Baloncesto Femenino. The key distinction between the two is geographic scope. The WBLA includes clubs from North, Central, and South America, including the USA, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Conversely, the Liga Sudamericana is restricted exclusively to South American nations.

Founded in 2023, the tournament represents the top-tier professional club event for the region. It operates concurrently with the Liga Sudamericana. This structure allows clubs to potentially qualify for both competitions depending on domestic performance and regional eligibility. The league was established as part of FIBA's strategy to expand professional women's club basketball globally.

The format typically features eight teams divided into two geographic groups of four. Teams play a round-robin group stage. The top two teams from each group advance to a centralized "Final Four" knockout stage. This stage consists of single-elimination semifinals, a third-place match, and the championship final. The 2024 edition was held in Medellín, Colombia. Previous editions have taken place in Rionegro, Colombia.

Indeportes Antioquia is the dominant force, winning the first two editions in 2023 and 2024. In the 2023 final, they defeated Uruguay's Malvín. In the 2024 final, they beat the United States' Bay Area Phoenix. Malvín Montevideo Women were runners-up in 2023. Other notable participants include Ferro Carril Oeste from Argentina and Pioneras de Delicias from Mexico. The current roster includes teams such as Salvadoreñas BC from El Salvador and the Bay Arena Phoenix Women.
