Sporting Clube Leões das Enguardas is the fixture that Barcelos players circle first — the Portuguese Basketball Federation itself has called the meeting a "verdadeiro DERBY", true derby. The rest of Minho fills in around it: Clube dos Galitos, SC Braga, Vitória SC, none of them carrying quite the same weight.

The nickname tells its own story of borrowed identity. Barcelos plays as the Galos, the Roosters, a name it shares with the men's football club in the city — the basketball side wears it in red and white rather than claiming a symbol of its own.

Games are played at the Pavilhão da Escola Secundária de Barcelos.

What Barcelos lacked for years was silverware to match the derby talk. A runner-up finish in the 2017-18 Taça de Portugal Feminina showed the team could reach a final without winning one. That changed step by step: the Campeonato Nacional da 2.ª Divisão Feminina in 2021 lifted the club up a tier, beating AD Sanjoanense Basquetebol 106-96 after extra time to take the Campeonato Nacional da 1.ª Divisão Feminina.
