Sanjoanense Women

The fixture that matters most to the women of Sanjoanense is the one against Esgueira Aveiro, a match referred to as the derby distrital, the district derby. It has no formal name. Nor do the meetings with Sporting de Espinho, the other side the black and white players measure themselves against most often in the Liga Betclic Feminina, the top tier of Portuguese women's basketball.

They reached that tier in 2023–24, and the season was decided in two rounds of knockout basketball. Sanjoanense won the promotion playoff against CLIP Teams 48–37. In the same season they won the Campeonato Nacional da 1.ª Divisão Feminina, beating AD Vagos in a final that went to a third game and was settled 66–64. The Taça de Portugal has not come its way.

The basketball section belongs to Associação Desportiva Sanjoanense, a multi-sport club founded on 25 February 1924. Its women's team is a much younger success than the club itself.

Schekinah Bimpa, an American forward, joined in 2024 and has since been named most valuable player of the Liga Betclic Feminina. Her arrival came within months of the title, and the club has kept its place in the top tier with her in the side.

Home games are played at the Pavilhão Municipal Paulo Pinto, also known as the Complexo Desportivo Paulo Pinto, in São João da Madeira.
