CDEFF Women

In 2024 a team from a school gymnasium in Funchal reached the semi-finals of the Taça de Portugal and lost there to Quinta dos Lombos. For CDEFF Women it was the deepest cup run the senior side has made. The club has no national title or cup to its name.

The name explains the origins. Clube Desportivo da Escola Francisco Franco was set up on 24 October 2005 around a school on Madeira. The Sub-14 girls still win regional trophies, including the Taça da Madeira, and they have shared the district titles with CAB Madeira.

The senior side took longer to arrive. It won the Second Division in 2019/20. A year later it finished as runners-up in the First Division, and that result earned promotion. Since then the club has played in the Liga Betclic Feminina, the top tier of Portuguese women's basketball.

Imports have helped it keep pace. Jenna Mastellone, an American, led the league in scoring in 2024-25. Her compatriot Mya Burns set a record efficiency rating in a game that brought the team back to winning ways.

Home is the Pavilhão Francisco Franco, a school hall on Rua das Hortas in the Santa Luzia district, with room for 1,000 spectators. The club plays in blue and black.
