GDBA are back in the Liga Feminina de Basquetebol, with a league title from 2022/2023 and the Taça da Federação from 2024 still fresh in the club's recent run of form.

The senior side traces back to the Grupo Desportivo da Escola Secundária de Santo André, a link that still shows in the green and white colours the team carries onto the court at Barreiro. A municipal plan to develop basketball in the city, involving the club and the town council, dates back to 1990, though the section's own path to the top flight took longer to complete.

That breakthrough came with two Taça de Portugal wins in a row, in 2003/2004 and 2004/2005, each paired with the Supertaça Feminina in the same season. The first national championship followed in 2006/2007, and Barreiro has returned to that summit twice since, in 2016/2017 and again in 2022/2023.

The club's most recognisable name took a different route than most: Neemias Queta came through the youth ranks at Barreiro before his path led all the way to the NBA.
