Benfica stood in the way twice inside a year, and both times Esgueira found a way past them. In January the two sides met for the Taça Federação Feminina, and Esgueira won 87-75 to take the trophy. A few months later they met again, this time with the Liga Betclic Feminina title at stake, and that one went the other way — Benfica edged it 78-75 after extra time.

The club traces back to November 1956, when it was formed in Aveiro as Clube do Povo de Esgueira, a name it still carries as a nickname. It plays in green and yellow, and the women's side now competes at the top of Portuguese basketball, in the Liga Betclic Feminina, working out of Pavilhão OLI.

The league title itself is still out of reach.
