Brixia Basket Women

Brescia carries an old military nickname, La Leonessa d'Italia, earned in 1438 when the Venetian Senate called the city "Lioness and worthy bride of the Lion." The women's basketball club that took the name plays under it at PalaLeonessa, and the badge belongs to a team that only started climbing towards the top flight in 2010.

Brixia Basket began that year in Serie C Lombardia, the regional tier, and worked through the Italian pyramid for over a decade before buying Basket Costa's licence in 2022 to reach Serie A1. Twelve years of promotion football, in other words, stand behind a club still finding its footing among Italy's established names.

That footing showed in 2025, when Brixia reached the Coppa Italia final and ran into Famila Schio, losing the deciding match. It was the closest the senior team has come to a trophy since the licence purchase, and it arrived faster than the club's slow climb through the lower divisions might have suggested. The youth setup has produced its own marker: the Under-19 side finished third at the 2024 national championship, beaten by Basket Roma in the semi-final before closing out the placement game against Minibasket Battipaglia 72-52.

The club plays in blue and white, and its home sits at PalaLeonessa, a multifunctional arena holding 5,200 people in a city that had already decided, nearly six centuries earlier, what kind of loyalty it wanted to be known for.
