Caledonia Gladiators spent their first six seasons under a different name and a different owner, and it took a rebrand for the club to reach a final it could win. In May 2025 they beat Oaklands Wolves 61-59 to take the Betty Codona Trophy.

The team started out in 2016 as Caledonia Pride, the first professional women's basketball side in Scotland, and reached a WBBL Cup final in its second season while still playing under that name. The switch to Caledonia Gladiators came in 2022, after the operation passed to the Lady Rocks basketball club, and the new identity brought the sharper results: runners-up finishes in the WBBL Championship in 2022-23 and again in 2023-24, back-to-back seasons in which the club got over the line in almost everything except the final itself.

Home games are played at Playsport Arena in East Kilbride, currently fitted out for 1,800 spectators as a temporary measure ahead of a planned 6,000-seat rebuild. Across the border, Newcastle Eagles Women have become the team's fiercest opponents, a rivalry with no shared name but plenty of needle whenever the two sides meet.

What still eludes the Gladiators is the WBBL Championship itself. Two runner-up finishes in successive seasons put them within one contest of the title both times, and that particular line has not moved since.
