Leonardo Monsalve took Puerto Varas past Universidad de Concepción twice inside a year, first in May 2021 and again the following April, and each time it was the Copa Chile that came back south. The second final went the tighter way, 69-62, but the shape of both games was the same: a club from a lakeside city beating the sort of opponent that usually has the depth to wear a smaller side down late.

Puerto Varas Basket carries a nickname, Los Lacustres, that names what it is before it names where it plays.

The Supercopa de Chile has gone the other way. Puerto Varas reached the 2021 final and lost it to the same Universidad de Concepción side it would go on to beat twice in the Copa Chile, and the national league title has stayed just out of reach too, with a semi-final run as close as the club has come.
