Chalon/Saone U21

Élan Chalon's youth side proved the point in 2013, when it took the French Espoirs Championship and the Trophée du Futur in the same season.

That pipeline runs through the Centre de Formation attached to Élan Chalon, the senior club playing out of Chalon-sur-Saône under colours of red, white and silver. The Espoirs side carries no separate history of its own; it competes in the LNB Espoirs U21 league. Thabo Sefolosha came up between 2002 and 2005. Clint Capela joined the academy in 2009 and moved into the professional squad in 2012, the same stretch that saw Joffrey Lauvergne progress through the ranks. Mathias Lessort spent five years there, from 2011 to 2016, before his own move upward.

Games against the Espoirs sides of Dijon and Besançon carry the weight of regional rivalry, while the fixture against Prissé sits closer to home, a genuinely local derby rather than a regional one.

The senior side gives the academy its reference points: two LNB Pro A championships, taken in 2011–12 against Le Mans Sarthe Basket and in 2016–17 against SIG Strasbourg, plus back-to-back French Cup wins in those same two years. For the U21 group, the task stays the one it was built for — keep producing players good enough to make that step up.
