FC Diarra de la Commune 4 takes its name from the Bamako district where the club was put together in 2010. It took until 2024 to reach Mali's top flight, and the route in ran through the Tournoi de la Montée, the promotion tournament the club won that year to earn its first season in Ligue 1 Orange.

Home games are played at the Stade Mamadou Konaté, a ground whose capacity was cut roughly in half by renovation, down to 5,500 from an original 10,000. The club, known locally as Les Lions, finished as runners-up behind Djoliba AC in 2025-26. That campaign carried into the 2026 Coupe du Mali, where FC Diarra beat holders Stade Malien on penalties, 5-4 after a goalless draw, to reach a final for the first time. Djoliba AC won it 0-2, a 21st Coupe du Mali title for them.

The Man of the Match in that final was Aboubacar Diarra, who came through FC Diarra's own academy before leaving to captain Djoliba AC and later move on to AS Vita Club in Congo. Another academy graduate, forward Amady Camara, went through Sturm Graz and a loan spell at Nantes before joining Randers, picking up caps for the Mali national team along the way.

In Bamako, the fixture that matters to FC Diarra is against AS Réal Bamako, played out as the Derby Académie.
