FSV Rijeka Women

Rijeka's basketball identity has long belonged to the men's game and to Kvarner, whose 2014-15 runners-up finish remains the closest any club from the city has come to the national title. The women's side wearing FSV's blue, yellow and white has built its own, quieter path through the same city, working up from the second tier toward the top flight of Croatian women's basketball.

Behind the initials sits a name few outsiders would guess: Flumen Sancti Viti, Latin for "River of St Vitus," a nod to the medieval name for Rijeka and to the city's patron saint. It is the kind of detail that survives mostly in the club's own paperwork rather than in everyday use, where FSV or simply Fsv is what gets said pitchside.

The club runs both men's and women's programmes, with the women's first team the one carrying FSV into the Premijer Liga after moving up from the A-2 division, where it was still playing as recently as the 2016/17 season. Marin Mijaljevic now has charge of that squad, tasked with keeping a team without a national trophy competitive against clubs that have had longer runs at the top.

Their home is Dvorana Mladosti, the Hall of Youth, standing since 1973 and holding just under 3,000 on seats with room for another thousand standing. It is not a venue built for spectacle, and FSV has not asked much of it in that sense — no championship banners, no cup runs to speak of. What the club does have is a base: close to 150 players moving through its youth categories, the kind of number that says less about silverware than about a club still filling out its own bench for the years ahead.
