Lummen BBC Women

Lummen is a Limburg town whose basketball lives in one sports complex, De Vijfsprong, where a cafetaria sits beside the stands. The club behind it started in December 1968 and played its first season in the 2nd Provincial division in 1969–70. The women's side, Athenas, in yellow and blue, is the reason the club is now known beyond the province.

Their climb began in 2011–12 with a 2nd Provincial title, followed by another the next season and a third in 2014–15. Two 1st Provincial titles followed, in 2015–16 and 2016–17. All the while the team kept reaching cup finals well above its division. In 2012–13 and again in 2016–17 it played in the final of the Beker van Vlaanderen, the Cup of Flanders, against clubs from higher leagues. Closer to home it won the Beker van Limburg three times, in 2009–10, 2012–13 and 2016–17.

The First National (Eerste Landelijke) title came in 2017–18 and took Athenas into the Top Division, today the women's BNXT League. Since then the club has recruited from the clubs it now meets. Jaleesa Maes, a former Belgian national team player, came back from the Liège Panthers. In 2025 Marjorie Carpréaux arrived with six Belgian titles and four cups won at Namur and Castors Braine. Ann Wauters, the Belgian great, advised her on the move. Both Liège and Castors Braine are regular opponents, and Kangoeroes Mechelen is another the club measures itself against.

Between the first 2nd Provincial title in 2012 and the First National title in 2018 lay six seasons.
