The 2023 Israeli State Cup final went to overtime, and Maccabi Haifa lost it 78–84 to Maccabi Bnot Ashdod. It remains the club's closest approach to a major trophy: they have won neither the Cup nor the top-flight title. Four years earlier they had been in the second tier.

That was where the section had spent roughly four decades. The women's basketball team was first set up in the 1970s and played in the top division for that decade. It was relegated in the early 1980s and stayed in the National League, the second tier, for the better part of 40 years.

The way back began around 2009, when the multi-sport Maccabi Haifa association decided to rebuild the department. Yoav Karlikar arrived that year as technical director to put it together. In 2019 the team beat Gilboa/Galil in the National League final and won promotion to the top flight, the first time they had been there since the early 1980s.

Once there, they built their squads around American imports, among them Destiny Littleton, Tia Presley and Bernice Mosby. Israeli players such as Nur Yofe and Daniela Gil played alongside them. They also kept reaching the later rounds of the Cup: after the 2023 final, they were in the semi-finals again in February 2026. For the 2025/2026 season the head coach is Naomi Kolodni, who took over from Daniela Reuven.

The team plays in Bikurim Hall, which seats 750 and is also known as the Maccabi Haifa Club Hall. The division is the one the section played in during the 1970s, before it dropped out.
