Porte Du Hainaut Women

Porte Du Hainaut spent 2012 doing something no club from Saint-Amand-les-Eaux had done before or since: reaching the quarter-finals of the Eurocup Women. The club that made that run began in 1999, when Basket Amicale Laïque Saint Amand Centre merged with US Valenciennes-Orchies to form Union Saint-Amand Porte du Hainaut, and the NF3 title in 2001 got the club moving, but it took two runner-up finishes in NF1, in 2005 and 2010, to force through the two promotions that eventually put it in the top-flight Ligue féminine de basket.

A further merger in 2008, with US Valenciennes Olympic, produced Union Hainaut Basket, later renamed Saint-Amand Hainaut Basket. Under either name, the club has never won the French top division, and relegation to Ligue Féminine 2 at the end of the 2023–2024 season undid much of that decade of climbing — though the same campaign brought a run to the Coupe de France quarter-finals.

Squad lists over the years have carried an unusually international look for a club this size: Australian Olympian Natalie Burton wore the shirt in 2019–2020, alongside Spanish international Laura García and a run of French internationals through the ranks. The "Green Girls," as the team is known despite playing in blue and white, draw their sharpest fixture against ESB Villeneuve-d'Ascq, a meeting billed locally as the Derby du Nord.

The Eurocup run of 2012 remains the reference point: a club built from two mergers, on a fourth-division title and a pair of promotion near-misses, reaching a European quarter-final it has not matched since.
