Monaco Women

Monaco is a place that measures itself in square kilometres and in status, not in sporting tradition. The women's game had no foothold until Éric Elena and Martine Elena founded the Monaco Basket Association in November 2009, starting the following year at the regional Pré-Excellence level under coach Babeth Aranda.

Promotion to Nationale 2 Féminine came in 2014 under Olga Tarasenko, and the club's breakthrough arrived in the 2016–2017 season, when it won the NF2 championship and then took the Trophée Coupe de France at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris, beating three teams from a higher division to do it. A second Coupe de France followed in 2022 against Pays de Fougères Basket.

Ligue 2 Féminine has proved harder to hold onto than to reach. Relegated from LF2 after the 2023–2024 season, the MBA answered by winning every one of its sixteen matches in Nationale 1 to retake the division in March 2025 — a run Prince Albert II marked publicly. The club has twice reached the Coupe de France final since that promotion push began, losing to Alençon in 2024 and to Rouen Bihorel in 2025, finals it reached but has not managed to win again since 2022.

Julie Tétart, a centre who arrived for the 2024–25 season, became the team's leading scorer and rebounder in LF2. The club runs its own youth pathway, the MBA School, from age seven upward, though the roster that has carried Monaco back into LF2 has been built mainly through outside signings rather than academy graduates working their way up.
