Montbrison Women

The Gymnase André-Dubruc holds barely 1,100 people, and on the nights BCMF have played there for a title, that has been the point: the noise has carried further than the seating suggests, and visiting sides have talked about the ground as a genuinely hostile place to arrive at with something to defend. It is not a venue built for a club chasing the top of French women's basketball, but it has become one anyway.

The women's section split off from the main Basket Club Montbrison in 1991, decades after the parent club had been founded in 1934, and for most of its life it worked its way up through the lower divisions without much attention beyond the Loire. That changed with back-to-back promotions: the NF3 title in 2014, the NF2 title the year after, each one moving the club up a level rather than simply adding a line to the honours list.

The real turn came in Ligue Féminine 2. Montbrison reached the final in 2024-25 and lost to Toulouse Métropole Basket, then went back the following season and lost again, this time to La Tronche-Meylan Basket Club, in a decider that went to a third match. Two finals in two years from a club playing in front of 1,100 people is not the usual route to the top of the division. Corinne Benintendi coached both campaigns and used the second season to announce she would step down at its end, closing out the most successful spell in the club's history from the bench rather than after it.

There is no derby name attached to it, but the club's nearest rival is Saint-Chamond/Andrézieux-Bouthéon, and the two sides carry the weight of neighbouring Loire clubs whenever they meet.
