Union Hainaut Women

The team now known as Saint-Amand Hainaut Basket carries the name Union Hainaut Women because of what came before it: Union Hainaut Basket, formed in 2008 when US Valenciennes Olympique merged with Union Saint-Amand Porte du Hainaut. That first club reached the top-flight Ligue Féminine de Basketball straight away, finished fifth in its only season there, then went bankrupt. A new structure took shape in June 2009 to keep basketball alive in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, starting over three divisions down in Nationale 1 before working its way back up.

In 2011–12 and again in 2012–13, the club reached the quarter-finals of the EuroCup Women, falling first to Kayseri Kaski Spor and then to Vologda-Čevakata. Domestically, the deepest run came later: a semi-final appearance in the 2021–2022 Coupe de France féminine, ended by Landerneau Bretagne Basket.

Clémence Beikes, who won silver with the French national team at the 2012 Olympics, played for the club during that European run, and the roster has also carried Canadian international Shona Thorburn. Les Green Girls, as they are known locally, take their nickname from the green and black colours worn at the Salle Maurice Hugot.

The club sits in Ligue Féminine 2 for the 2025–2026 season, still working from the same rebuilt foundation it laid in 2009.
