The club began life as a registered company in Singapore on 20 September 2013. Youth squads named Grizzlies, Lions and Stingers feed into the Singapore Premier Basketball League, where more than 2,000 children play weekly. That programme runs out of the ShotZone facility on Chai Chee Road, fitted with electronic tracking balls and digital data-capturing hoops.

Promotion came first, in 2017, when the club won the NBL Division Two title and stepped up to the top flight. It has stayed there since, fielding a Men's Division One side at the Singapore Basketball Centre in Aljunied. SG Basketball also runs the Asia Pacific Cup, billed as the region's largest youth tournament, extending the academy's reach well beyond its own age-group teams.

Coach PK — Ong Peng Kiat, the club's co-founder — remains the figure most associated with SG Basketball.
