No shared history runs between Zagłębie Sosnowiec and any single opponent; the sharper edge lies across the region, in the meetings with 1KS Ślęza Wrocław and KGHM BC Polkowice, two clubs that already have a name for their own contest, the Derby Dolnego Śląska. Sosnowiec sits outside that line, close enough in the table to matter, never quite inside the rivalry itself. Polkowice ended Zagłębie's run in the 2022/2023 semi-finals, three matches to none; a year later it was Ślęza who shut the door, in the quarter-finals.

The team grew out of Filar Sosnowiec, formed in 2014, and reached the top-flight Basket Liga Kobiet within a season, in 2015/2016. Its ceiling in Poland has stayed just below the final weekend: fourth place in the league in 2022/2023, fifth the year after, and three straight semi-final exits from the Polish Cup, the last of them in front of its own crowd, in Sosnowiec, where a 89:68 win over Brother MUKS Poznań gave way to a 72:99 defeat to Gorzów Wielkopolski.

Europe has asked harder questions. In the 2024/2025 EuroCup Women, Zagłębie won Group I outright, six wins from six, before Angers ended the run in the round of 16, taking the tie 176–148 on aggregate after a 90–88 defeat at home in the second leg. Jessica January, the captain, has carried much of that campaign, named MVP of the competition's sixth week in 2022/2023.

The Hala Widowiskowo-Sportowa holds 710 people for a club still chasing its first major trophy.
