About the player
Edimilson Fernandes was born in Sion and came through the ranks at FC Sion, making his Swiss Super League debut in 2013 and winning the Swiss Cup two years later. That form took him to West Ham United in August 2016 for a fee of £5 million, where he made 42 appearances before a loan spell at Fiorentina. In June 2019 he moved to Mainz 05, interrupted by loans to Arminia Bielefeld, to Young Boys in 2022, and to Stade Brestois 29. He returned to Young Boys permanently in July 2025 on a four-year contract, wearing the number 6 shirt as a defensive midfielder.
Fernandes made his senior debut for Switzerland in November 2016 against the Faroe Islands and has since won 34 caps, scoring twice, including a goal against the Republic of Ireland during Euro 2020 qualification. He was part of the Swiss squad that reached the quarter-finals of Euro 2020, finished fourth at the 2019 UEFA Nations League, and featured at the 2022 World Cup.
