About the player
Mohammad Abu Fani made his senior debut at Maccabi Haifa in May 2017, and spent the following seasons being farmed out on loan — first to Hapoel Ramat Gan, then to Hapoel Hadera — before establishing himself back at his parent club.
The form he showed in that run persuaded Ferencvárosi TC to sign him in July 2023 for a fee of €1.5 million. The move to Budapest has worked out just as well: Abu Fani has won the Nemzeti Bajnokság I title in each of his first two seasons at the club, and added the Magyar Kupa the following season, giving him a near-unbroken run of silverware since his Maccabi Haifa days.
At international level, Abu Fani debuted for Israel in October 2020 in a Euro 2020 qualifying play-off against Scotland — a high-stakes introduction to the national side. He has since gone on to earn 33 caps and score four goals, featuring in both UEFA Nations League fixtures and World Cup qualifiers.
Physically he is one of the smaller midfielders in Hungarian football, and his right foot has been the one constant through a career built less on a single standout moment than on steady accumulation: loan spells that toughened him up, followed by trophy after trophy once he settled into a first team.
